Hey Operation Flourish Fam!
So, you've set some ambitious New Year's resolutions.
Maybe you're aiming to run a marathon, learn a new language, or finally tackle that daunting home organization project. But let's be honest, those initial bursts of motivation can fade quickly. The good news? You didn't need to wait for January 1st to set goals! And it's perfectly okay to adjust or even abandon resolutions along the way.
Here are the keys to making your goals stick:
1. Ditch the "All or Nothing" Mentality:
Life happens. Unexpected events, setbacks, and simply feeling off can derail even the best-laid plans.
Embrace imperfection. It's okay to have off days. The goal is progress, not perfection.
Focus on consistency over intensity. Small, consistent steps are more sustainable than sporadic bursts of effort.
2. Set SMARTER Goals:
Specific: Clearly define what you want to achieve. Instead of "Get in shape," aim for "Run a 5k in under 30 minutes by [date]."
Measurable: Track your progress. How will you know if you're on track?
Achievable: Set realistic goals that challenge you but are within reach.
Relevant: Ensure your goals align with your values and overall life vision.
Time-bound: Set deadlines to create a sense of urgency.
Evaluated: Regularly review your progress. Are you on track? Do you need to adjust your approach?
Re-evaluated: Life changes. Your goals should too. Don't be afraid to reassess and make adjustments as needed.
3. Break Down Big Goals:
Overwhelmed? Break down large goals into smaller, more manageable steps.
Celebrate small wins. Acknowledge and celebrate your accomplishments along the way. This will keep you motivated.
4. Find an Accountability Partner:
Share your goals with a friend, family member, or mentor.
Regularly check in with them on your progress.
Consider joining a support group or online community.
5. Practice Self-Compassion:
Be kind to yourself. Everyone experiences setbacks. Don't let a slip-up derail your entire journey.
Focus on learning and growth. View challenges as opportunities to learn and improve.
Remember: Setting goals is a continuous journey, not a one-time event.
Celebrate your successes.
Learn from your setbacks.
And most importantly, enjoy the process!
Cheerfully yours,
Kayla Myers
