Hey Operation Flourish Fam!

June brings us Men's Health Month and National Safety Month, both of which align perfectly with the #ChooseHealth pillar of avoiding risk behaviors. While these months often focus on specific demographics or workplace safety, the core message is universal: making conscious choices to protect ourselves from harm is fundamental to cultivating a life filled with positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning, and accomplishment.

Avoiding risk behaviors isn't about living in fear; it's about informed decision-making that safeguards our well-being and allows us to live more fully. This can encompass a wide range of areas, from making smart choices about substance use to practicing safe habits in our daily lives.

Here are some actionable steps to avoid risk behaviors and protect your flourish:

  • Mindful Substance Choices: Educate yourself about the risks associated with alcohol, tobacco, and other substances. If you choose to partake, do so responsibly and in moderation. If you're struggling with substance use, please seek professional help. Resources like the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Helpline are available.

Check out our Mental Health Resources Page: Resources | Operation Flourish.

  • Prioritize Safety in All Activities: Whether you're driving, cooking, or enjoying outdoor activities, take precautions. Wear your seatbelt, use appropriate safety gear, and be aware of your surroundings.

Check out our Risk Prevention page: Risk Prevention | Operation Flourish.

  • Regular Health Check-ups: Prevention is key! Regular doctor visits and screenings can catch potential health issues early, preventing them from becoming more serious.

  • Sun Safety: With summer approaching, remember to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Use sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and seek shade during peak hours.

By being proactive about avoiding risk behaviors, we not only protect our physical health but also reduce stress, anxiety, and the potential for negative consequences that can hinder our ability to flourish. Let's make smart choices for a vibrant and safe June!

Cheerfully yours,

Kayla Myers

PS: What's one safety habit you're recommitting to this month?

Let's inspire each other to live safely and vibrantly!
