Memorial Day is a reminder that remembrance and healing can exist together.
Memorial Day is a reminder that remembrance and healing can exist together.

Hello Operation Flourish Fam!

Today, we pause.

Memorial Day is often filled with cookouts, sunshine, and long weekends, but at its heart, this day is about remembrance. It is about honoring the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country and recognizing the families, friends, and communities who carry that loss every single day.

For many, Memorial Day can also bring complicated emotions. Grief. Anxiety. Loneliness. Survivor’s guilt. Trauma. Even feelings we cannot quite explain. While some people gather in celebration, others may be silently carrying memories that feel heavy.

That is why continuing our Mental Health Awareness Month series today feels especially important.

Mental health does not take holidays.

And neither should our compassion.

One of the most powerful things we can do is check in with ourselves and with others. Sometimes the strongest people are the ones hurting quietly. Veterans, military families, survivors of loss, and everyday individuals navigating personal battles may all experience heightened emotions during days of remembrance like today.

At Operation Flourish, I talk often about the 5 pillars of #ChooseHealth because healing is not one-size-fits-all. Sometimes caring for your mental health looks like:

🚶🏼 Taking a peaceful walk outside for joyful movement

🍽️ Fueling your body with balanced nutrition instead of stress skipping meals

🛌🏼 Prioritizing restorative sleep after emotionally exhausting days

🧘🏻 Giving yourself permission to process emotions through mindful mental health practices

⚠️ Avoiding risk behaviors that temporarily numb pain but deepen wounds later

Healing does not mean forgetting.

Strength does not mean suppressing.

And honoring others should never come at the expense of neglecting yourself.

Today, as we remember those who sacrificed everything, I also encourage you to care for the life you have been given. Reach out to someone. Start the conversation. Take a breath. Rest if you need to. Ask for help if you are struggling.

There is no shame in needing support.

This Memorial Day, may we honor the fallen not only with remembrance, but by choosing to live with greater compassion, purpose, and care for one another.

Because every life matters.

Including yours.

Cheerfully yours,

Kayla Myers

P.S.

If today feels heavy for you, please do not carry it alone.

Reach out to a trusted friend, loved one, mental health professional, or support resource.

Checking in could change or even save a life.
