Hey Operation Flourish Fam!

April is National Stress Awareness Month, a time to focus on the growing impact of stress in our lives and how we can manage it more effectively. But do you know how this month came to be? Let’s take a step back and explore the origins of National Stress Awareness Month, why it was created, and why it’s more important than ever.

A Brief History of National Stress Awareness Month

National Stress Awareness Month was established in 1992 by the Health Resource Network (HRN), an organization dedicated to educating the public about the causes of stress and offering tips on how to manage it. In the U.S., the month of April was chosen to highlight the importance of stress management because it falls right at the beginning of spring—a season symbolizing renewal and growth.

But Why Does Stress Need Its Own Month?

The answer is simple: stress affects nearly every aspect of our lives. From work deadlines and personal relationships to the global uncertainties we face today, stress is a constant companion for many of us. National Stress Awareness Month serves as a reminder to pause and reflect on our mental and emotional health. It's a time to seek understanding, education, and relief from the pressures that we often neglect.

Why National Stress Awareness Month Matters Now More Than Ever

In our fast-paced, technology-driven world, stress is at an all-time high. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), over 75% of adults report experiencing moderate to high levels of stress, and it’s taking a toll on our health, productivity, and overall well-being.

This month isn’t just about recognizing stress—it’s about creating space for healthier conversations and solutions that empower us to manage stress more effectively. By raising awareness and sharing resources, we can begin to make positive changes that ripple through our communities, workplaces, and homes.

As we dive deeper into National Stress Awareness Month, it’s important to understand not just the history, but also the real impact stress has on us—and how we can take actionable steps toward managing it.

Let’s make April the month we take control of stress, one step at a time.

Cheerfully yours, Kayla Myers
